The Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department (JVFD) will open its doors to area residents so they can learn about what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter in their community as part of the seventh annual RecruitNY statewide initiative. Over the last several years, it has been difficult for many fire departments throughout New York State to recruit and retain volunteers. Consider joining our team so that we may continue to provide an optimum level of fire, rescue, and medical services to our community.
As part of RecruitNY, on Saturday, April 29 from 11AM to 2PM, JVFD Station 1 and JVFD Station 2 will join volunteer fire departments across the state for a unified recruitment drive. Throughout the day, members of the Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct tours of the station and apparatus, allow visitors to try on firefighting turnout gear, conduct equipment demonstrations, provide activities and informational opportunities, and highlight the rewards and responsibilities that come with being a volunteer firefighter. Members will discuss the requirements of a volunteer, answer questions, and let visitors know how to get involved with the fire department.
“Come on out and join us for this unique recruitment day at our firehouses,” said Chief Patrick Champagne. “This is a great opportunity for our neighbors to observe the exciting tasks of being a firefighter. Our current members love what they do; they are everyday people who help our community in a time of need. We hope our recruitment day will inspire area residents to join our fire service family.”
