Pickleball Courts Proposed for Veterans Park

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country and soon we may have new dedicated Pickleball Courts right here in town! We have heard from many people who are very interested in having a Pickleball facility in Clifton Park.

Supervisor Barrett first experienced the sport years ago while visiting his parents in Florida.  When he returned home to Clifton Park he had the Buildings and Grounds Department line some of the town tennis courts to be used as pickleball courts.  Since then the sport has really taken off in Clifton Park!

Pickleball is a fun sport and a group activity.  Many people will gather at one time, often early in the morning to compete. As it has grown in popularity around town there have been some minor issues with the proximity of the courts to residential neighborhoods.

We want to encourage recreation and wellness in town while also keeping our quiet neighborhoods the peaceful places they are.  With that in mind Councilman Morelli and Supervisor Barrett are proposing a project to renovate one of three softball fields at Veterans Park on MacElroy Road into 10 pickleball courts including a covered pavilion.

Veterans Park is an ideal location for dedicated Pickleball courts because it is set away from residential homes and has plenty of parking for players and spectators to use.

The Town will be looking to gauge public interest in the proposed project. Stay tuned for updates!

Country Knolls Pool Playground Renovation

For many decades, families have enjoyed the park and recreational facilities in Country Knolls adjacent to Burning Bush Boulevard.  The pool, fields, basketball court and playground have offered fun for people of all ages.  We are implementing an upgrade to the aging playground facilities with new structures.  The existing playground has been removed to make space for two new play structures; one for young children aged 18 months to 5 years and the other for older children aged 5 to 12 years. The bocce ball courts in the rear of the park have also been removed to accommodate a third play structure. The existing swing sets will remain in place. Preparation of the site was recently completed to reduce the time necessary to have the new structure in place next Spring.
