Settlers Hill Trail Reconstruction Update
Update 10/19/23: The Settlers Hill to Miller Road Trail is now officially open! Weather delays and a frustrating construction process made this project take much longer than expected. A simple repaving of this section of trail became a total reconstruction project following the issues experienced with the initial contractor. Over the last couple of years, we have repaved the trail system through neighborhoods such as The Oaks, Meadow Estates and Addison Estates. This section off Miller Road was the final section to be repaved as part of that plan.
Update 10/16/23: The short-range forecast appears to be cooperating as the contractor works on the final items necessary to complete the trail. The paving is done and now the task of installing material along the sides of the trail is underway.
Update 9/28/23: The contractor will be on site tomorrow with machinery to prepare the trail for paving. They are hoping to complete this next phase of the project without interruptions due to weather which has continually delayed progress.
Update 9/27/23: The contractor has informed the town that the trail will now be paved on October 9th. Some prep work has been completed although weather has once again disrupted the schedule. Following additional prep work in the coming days paving will be completed weather permitting.
Update 9/14/23: After established days we expected construction to start have passed, the contractor has mobilized equipment to the area and conducted preliminary work this week. We were informed today the contractor will begin to remove the trail on Monday. As always, and as we have grown accustomed to stating with projects this year, the work will begin weather permitting.
Update 9/6/23: The recent weather has been very cooperative, and the short-term forecast is promising. The contractor will be on site this week. The contractor has an estimated timeline of final paving of the trail between 9/22 and 9/27.
Update 8/28/23: The contractor is planning to begin September 5th, weather permitting. Construction has been delayed several times due to the rainy summer we have had and the wet conditions along the trail. The engineer has had discussions with the contractor about the conditions and some options that may help them during construction. The Town is willing to work with the contractor, within reason, on approved steps that will complete the project and ensure the trail is viable for the long term.
Update 7/21/23: The low bid was awarded to Carver Construction for the trail reconstruction project. At this time, we do not have a construction timeline. Town engineers have advised that the conditions of the area are too saturated due to the immense amount of rain that we have had this summer. Conditions will be monitored, and we will begin construction as soon as the conditions allow.
Update 6/29/23: After receiving no bids in the first round of the bid process the Town is pleased to announce that we have received several bids in the second round with competitive pricing. A company was chosen and will be approved by the Town Board at the next meeting so that the reconstruction process can begin as soon as possible.
Update 6/21/23: After receiving no responses to our initial bidding process, the Town has engaged a new bidding process. Bids are due on June 29, 2023.
Update 6/8/23: After the issues with the previous contractor the Town embarked on a very quick planning and procurement process following the destruction of the trail. A request for bids went out and the Town received no bids for the trail reconstruction project. A new bid process will commence immediately.
Update 5/12/23: The Town Board has been working to repave the trails that connect neighborhoods such as The Oaks, Summerhill, Addison Estates and Settlers Hill in recent years. All of the trails have been successfully repaved except for the trail connecting Miller Road to Wallflower Drive. Due to some difficulty experienced by the contractor while performing the work, this section of trail will require extensive repairs. Therefore, we have closed the trail until the repairs are completed. Town personnel are reviewing the situation and a plan of action to complete the repairs is being devised. Thank you for your patience.
