COVID-19 Information for Saratoga County - March 15, 2020

The Saratoga County Department of Public Health continues to work diligently to contain and mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 in the county.

There is one more confirmed case of COVID-19 in Saratoga County, an adult Clifton Park resident. The total number of confirmed cases is four. The Department of Public Health is currently investigating this case.

Offices of the Saratoga County government will be reducing staff to essential personnel only for one week beginning Monday, March 16, 2020. All county office spaces have been cleaned and employees are being reminded to practice social distancing and contribute to the cleaning and disinfection of their work spaces. Beginning Monday, all Saratoga County DMV offices will be by appointment only. The County Clerk’s Office is also suspending passport services and public searching.

Residents are reminded that in order to be tested for COVID-19 an order is required from a medical doctor, healthcare provider or the county Department of Public Health. If an individual believes they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 they should contact their primary care physician ahead of time to make an appointment.

If an individual has questions regarding COVID-19 they should contact the state Department of Health Hotline at 1-888-364-3065.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include: cough, fever, trouble breathing and pneumonia.

While there is currently no vaccine to prevent the virus, these simple steps can help stop the spread of this and other respiratory viruses:

• If you are over 60 years old and/or your health is compromised, avoid attending meeting in groups or large gatherings.
• Visit the grocery store or pharmacy at slow hours, where the number of people are reduced.
• Practice social distancing and avoid handshakes.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available then use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Keep a distance of at least 6 feet to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
