COVID-19 Information for Saratoga County - July 30, 2020

The Saratoga County Public Health Department and its team of contact tracers have noticed a troubling increase in COVID-19 cases among young adults in their 20s and 30s. In the month of July, 41 percent of the positive cases were individuals between the ages of 21 and 39. While the virus has primarily affected older individuals, the recent statistics are showing that younger adults are still at risk. It can make anyone sick and cause permanent disabilities or death. Even if someone is positive and asymptomatic, they can easily spread it to those who are at a higher risk for hospitalization or death.

The Saratoga County Public Health Department is urging young adults to:
• follow the precautionary guidelines of socially distancing
• wear masks whenever they are within six feet of another person
• not share drinks, food or cigarettes and vaping devices

Our findings have shown that the risk of infecting or becoming infected is greater in all types of social gatherings, whether at private residences or in public, or in large groups, like at a party.
