At the regularly scheduled October 5, 2020 meeting of the Town Board held at Town Hall, Board Members unanimously appointed attorney Anthony Morelli to fill the unexpired board seat of Jim Romano who had previously resigned effective October 1, 2020.
In making the appointment, the board resolution highlighted the experience and qualifications that made Morelli uniquely suited to be a member of the Clifton Park Town Board
Growing up in neighboring Ballston Spa, Morelli attended Christian Brothers Academy later graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a four-year Navy ROTC scholarship.
Serving as an officer on active duty for ten years, Morelli held escalating positions of leadership and deployed on three warships. Transitioning into the Navy Reserves, he was twice recalled to active duty for two 1-year deployments stationed at the US Central Command. Morelli recently completed his twentieth year of military service.
Following active service in 2005, Morelli moved to Clifton Park where he is raising three children, Andrew (17), Morgan (15) and Addison (12).
Committed to being involved in his children’s lives while serving his community, Morelli currently volunteers as a board member for Miss Shen Softball. Previously, he served as the Treasurer for the Shen Council PTA, Acadia Middle School and Tesago Elementary School, having been awarded their Honorary Life Award for his years of volunteerism. He has been a coach for Miss Shen Softball, Clifton Park Little League, and Clifton Park Soccer. In addition, he participated as his children’s Den Leader for Cub Scouts and Cookie Dad for Girl Scouts.
“When I completed my active duty in the Navy, I knew that I wanted to settle down in Clifton Park and raise my children here. Throughout the past 15 years, my family and I have grown to love all that the Town offers. Recreational opportunities, safety and security, and the overall quality of life continue to make Clifton Park a great place to live, work and raise a family. I look forward to faithfully and actively representing my neighbors in my time on the Town Board,” said newly appointed Town Board Member Anthony Morelli.
Morelli worked for several years at General Electric in various positions of managerial and legal responsibility before starting up his own private legal practice. With a law office in Clifton Park, Morelli’s legal practice focuses on family and criminal law, where he represents children and families regarding custody, neglect/abuse, adoption, and juvenile delinquency in addition to representing clients in a variety of criminal proceedings. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Saratoga County Bar Association.
Morelli previously served Town residents as a volunteer member of the Town Environmental Conservation Commission, Town Zoning Board, and Town Industrial Development Agency rising to the position of Chairman.
Until his appointment, Morelli provided legal services to the Town as Deputy Town Attorney and Counsel to the Town Planning Board, filling in as needed as the Counsel to the Zoning Board and Town Board respectively.
Morelli holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a Master of Business Administration from The George Washington University, and a Juris Doctor from Albany Law School.
Morelli’s appointment is through December 31, 2021, pending an election to be held in November of 2021.
