American Red Cross Courses available in Ballston Spa and Clifton Park
Saratoga County officials today announced a free American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program available to residents age 15 and older. Certification fees of $300 to $400 are waived for participants of these courses. There are a total of 30 slots available for people 15 years or older to obtain lifeguard certification and become employable for the 2022 summer season.
The first opportunity is offered at Ballston Spa High School on Thursday and Friday, May 26 and May 27 in person from 3 pm to 8:45 pm and all-day Saturday, May 28th from 8 am until 8:30 pm. There are 20 available slots for participants at this site. This class will certify the student in CPR, First Aid, AED and Water Rescue Skills including Waterfront (which is necessary for lifeguarding at beaches, lakes and other natural swimming
areas.)
The second opportunity is offered in person at the Clifton Park Town Pool, 5 Locust Lane in Clifton Park on Monday, June 6 through Sunday, June 12, 2022. Monday through Friday is scheduled 5:30 to 7:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10 am until 4:30 pm. There are online learning modules with this class must be completed prior to pool training. This class will certify 10 students in CPR, First Aid, AED and Water Rescue
Skills (pool certification only.)
Phil Barrett, Clifton Park Supervisor and Chair of the Saratoga County Health and Human Services Committee said, “We are excited to offer this opportunity to youth in Saratoga County to help fulfill a very real need for more lifeguards in our community. These courses will provide students with the skills they need to be employed by this summer at one of our community pools or beaches. Best of all, it is free and if transportation is a barrier for youth, we’ll provide a gas card to help them get to and from class.” The program is provided through funding from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
