State Ban on “ ALL” Residential Burning from March 16 – May 14, 2017
State Ban on Residential Burning begins March 16 through May 14, 2017 during High Fire-Risk Season.
All residential brush burning is prohibited in communities during the state’s historically high fire-risk period from March 16 through May 14, per the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
“This time of year has the most risk of brush fires and the risk is even greater this year due to the extremely mild winter we’ve seen across the state.” While the burn ban regulation allows residential brush for most of the year in towns with a population of less than 20,000 people, it prohibits open burning in ALL communities during early spring when the bulk of New York’s wildfires typically occur.”
Please note that “Agricultural” Farms are exempt from this burning ban but are subject to the requirements under the “Town Permit” and subject to disapproval by the Code Enforcement Officer if necessary during severe dry conditions.
Open burning is permitted within the Town of Clifton Park as allowed under Town Law and DEC regulations ONLY during May 15 – March 15.
